Spring 2015 Trends - Precious Metals

Last weekend I went to the Spring Gift Fair held at Auckland Showgrounds.  Over 500 wholesalers displaying their wares for furniture stores, homeware stores, florists, interior designers and more.   It was mind boggling to say the least!!  But there were some key trends which I thought I'd report back on over the coming weeks.

This week its all about metallics.

Gold, Brass & Copper! These gorgeous metallics are here to stay.  Adding a little luxury to the everyday space, there are gold tinges on everything from the littlest candles to side tables and armchairs.

Chrome and silver tend to look minimal and modern, but the gold tones that are right on trend at the moment add more of a vintage vibe as well as warmth and character to your space.

If you want to add some bling to your home I would suggest ensuring that you have at least three elements in the same tone so that they all tie together and nothing looks out of place (Thats a little tip for using colour in your decor as well).  For instance in our lounge we have a large gold framed mirror on the wall, a small gold house ornament on the mantle piece and then a little gold bird on the sideboard.   There are also small brushed gold brackets on the lights in our adjoining dining room and a tiny gold planter on a shelf.  Remember it's the little details that make all the difference and you don't need to go big to make a statement.  When using metallics its great to tie in some other textures so that the space isn't too blingy - think rustic timber to contrast with the gold, or some cow hide or chunky, natural knits to add some warmth.

I have ordered some gorgeous gold pieces in for my staging inventory and am happy for source more for my clients.   Here are some of my favourites and some of the bits and pieces I'm looking forward to using over the coming months!
